We collected this search data across four days in September 2026: 10th, 13th, 14th and 15th. Data on organic (non-paid) search listings alongside Google’s generated AI Overviews was assessed on each date in each state.
What we measured
Visibility score
The Visibility score measures how prominently a brand appears in our measured Google results, on a scale from zero to one hundred.
We checked the first 20 unpaid Google results. These results exclude advertisements. Higher positions earn more points.
Google also shows generated summaries called AI Overviews. We separate website appearances from AI Overview citations and AI Overview mentions.
- AI Overview citation: Google lists the brand’s recorded website domain as a source for its summary. This earns 4 points.
- AI Overview mention: Google names the brand in its own answer text without a source-list citation for that brand. This earns 2 points.
When a brand has both, only the AI Overview citation earns points. An inline answer link alone is not an AI Overview citation.
- 1AI Overview citation Brand A's own website appears in the source list. 4 points.
- 2AI Overview mention Google names Brand B, but its website isn't in the source list. 2 points.
- 3Inline link, still a mention Brand C's link in the answer counts as a mention, not a citation. 2 points.
A brand cited and mentioned in the same search earns only the citation's 4 points.
Our fixed list contains 211 distinct searches across New Jersey and Michigan. It covers casino, sportsbook, and separate locally relevant team and event searches.
Use the Visibility score to identify search results for closer inspection. It does not measure shares of traffic, customers or revenue.
Fact-page readiness
Fact-page readiness checks whether automated systems can read a brand’s key information pages and identify the information they contain.
The pages in scope are the state landing page, about or company page, licence or legal page, responsible-gambling page, and one article.
The seven checks cover automated access, state landing page, licence disclosure, responsible gambling, organisation data, welcome offer terms and operator identity.
Organisation data means information written for software that identifies the organisation and links to its official pages or profiles.
A readiness band describes the page evidence we could measure. It does not establish legal or regulatory compliance or predict a Google ranking.
Use the checks to guide a review of page access and clarity. Confirm missing or uncertain evidence before drawing conclusions.
Who holds the unpaid Google results
Affiliates, including independent sites and media groups’ review and comparison sites, hold far more unpaid Google results than licensed operators, especially for sportsbook searches.

How we measured it
We examined the first twenty unpaid Google results across 211 searches on 10 September 2026 and 13 September 2026. Unpaid results exclude advertisements.
The comparisons below cover casino and sportsbook searches in New Jersey and Michigan. One recorded appearance means one website domain on one search in one collection round.
These counts include repeated observations of searches. They do not count distinct searches.
Each cell shows a recorded appearance count and its percentage. Each column heading gives the total recorded appearances for that state and product.
The nine categories cover all recorded appearances. Their percentages total one hundred per cent before rounding.
“Forums and social sites” covers Reddit, YouTube, Facebook, X, Instagram, Quora, Pinterest, TikTok and LinkedIn. “Other” includes other sites, sites without an assigned type and app stores. Rounding can create a small difference between its displayed percentage and the share calculated from its count.
What the licence categories mean
Licensed operator: An operator licensed in the measured state. The study’s state-specific brand record determines the site type; a casino search can cite a sportsbook operator.
Operator not licensed in this state: A gambling operator licensed elsewhere in the US, but not in the measured state.
Not licensed by the regulator: Sites with no relevant US gambling licence, including offshore gambling sites, sweepstakes-style sites and prediction markets.
These categories do not establish worldwide licensing status or a legal conclusion.
The study used the regulators’ official lists of licensed operators to decide which operators count as licensed in each state.
The wider competition
The table lets operators compare their presence with each separate site type.
Review and comparison sites run by media groups, independent affiliate sites, and news media hold roughly 45.0 per cent of recorded appearances for New Jersey casino, 64.2 per cent for New Jersey sportsbook, 45.0 per cent for Michigan casino and 60.8 per cent for Michigan sportsbook.
The following review, affiliate and news sites feature in the measured results. Each list is unranked.
- New Jersey: sportsline.com, covers.com, cbssports.com, legalsportsreport.com, amp.foxsports.com and playnj.com.
- Michigan: sportsline.com, cbssports.com, covers.com, amp.foxsports.com, legalsportsreport.com and rotowire.com.
AI Overviews
Google’s AI Overviews are generated summaries within search results. We counted searches showing these summaries and recorded the websites in their source lists.
A citation links to your own site; a mention only names your brand. You can improve pages Google might cite, but Google decides whether to name your brand. That’s why the score gives a citation twice the points of a mention.

Casino AI Overviews give cited sources a place in the answer. Media groups’ review and comparison sites are the largest source group in both states. We’ll track which pages Google cites in future editions.
How we measured it
These AI Overview citation counts come from the additional casino check on 15 September 2026. That check does not contribute to the Visibility score or the standings’ AI Overview columns.
Each recorded AI Overview citation is a source listed in an observed summary. The same brand can receive citations on different searches.
“Site type not assigned” covers sources without a recorded site type, and “App stores” covers pages listing apps for download.

FanDuel is cited far more often than any other licensed operator in sportsbook AI Overviews across both states. These counts show times cited, not shares of all citations.
How we measured it
We checked the sportsbook and separate team and event searches in both states on 10 September 2026 and 13 September 2026.
Checking the same search on different dates creates a search observation for each date. It remains one distinct search.
These totals include team and event searches. The standings score those searches separately from the main sportsbook searches.
The standings
TBD.Media tested 211 distinct casino, sportsbook, team and event searches in New Jersey and Michigan.
Each table compares brands within its own state and search category. Team and event searches have seasonal demand, are dominated by sports media and affiliate sites, and mostly don’t name a state. A separate table keeps seasonal searches without an operator focus from swaying the main sportsbook ranking, which uses only searches that name a state.
Near invisible brands appear alphabetically without ranks. Near invisible describes the measured searches in that table; it does not mean customers cannot find the brand elsewhere.
How we measured it
Ranked rows follow descending Visibility scores. The practical margin is plus or minus 2 Visibility points, so a small difference does not establish a meaningful lead.
What the columns count
Each count measures distinct searches. Repeating a search does not increase its count within a column. A search can contribute to several columns, so do not add the columns together.
- Website in the top 20: Searches where a recorded brand website appeared among the first twenty unpaid results in any scored collection. Unpaid results exclude advertisements.
The total for “Website in the top 20” includes every search in that table. The totals for “AI Overview citation” and “AI Overview mention” include only distinct searches showing an AI Overview in a scored collection.
“AI Overview citation” and “AI Overview mention” count searches, not individual citations or distinct cited brands. The separate AI Overviews section uses different collections and labels its counts accordingly.
Fact-page readiness
Fact-page readiness assesses access to a brand’s key information pages and the information they contain. New Jersey results use readiness bands or assessment statuses, not public scores.
Ready, Partial and Gaps are readiness bands. Not rated means too few checks were measurable.

This edition gathered fact page data for New Jersey only. Michigan’s fact page data will follow in the next report.
What the checks reward
- Automated access. Operators can let software reach key fact pages so it can read the information.
- State pages. A dedicated page for each state can make the operator’s local offer and information clear.
- Licence disclosure. Operators can publish clear licence details on their key fact pages.
- Responsible gambling information. Operators can include clear guidance and links to support on their key fact pages.
- Operator identity. Operators can name who runs the site, with organisation details and official profile links in a format software can read.
- Welcome offer terms. Operators can put clear terms alongside the welcome offer, making its conditions easy to find.
How we measured it
We assessed licensed New Jersey casino and sportsbook rows. A company can have a separate row for each product.
We publish readiness bands for New Jersey only, with a band for each rated brand-and-product row and no per-check results. The method’s pre-notification section explains why no notices are sent.
Ready means 70 or above. Partial means 40 to below 70. Gaps means below 40. These bands do not establish legal or regulatory compliance.
Two independent reviewers checked all 39 New Jersey rows. The evidence was collected on 10 September 2026 and 11 September 2026.
The study covers 39 brand-and-product rows, not distinct brands.
The separate team and event table omits readiness because each brand’s assessment for the same sportsbook product already appears in the sportsbook table.
Not rated means fewer than five of the seven checks were measurable. A rated row also requires a measurable automated-access check. This describes limited measurement, not the quality of the operator’s pages.
TBD.Media’s view
We set out to measure operators’ visibility across unpaid Google results and AI answers in New Jersey and Michigan. What stands out is the space held by independent affiliates and media groups’ comparison sites, especially in sportsbook results. FanDuel leads every table, while most New Jersey casino brands are Near invisible.
Casino AI Overviews were the surprise. Google has historically been cautious about showing AI answers for gambling searches, yet casino AI Overviews appeared within days of our earlier checks showing none. That gives operators another place to be seen, but this short window can’t tell us whether Google will keep showing them.
For brands with limited visibility, we’d identify the biggest gaps by search and by state, then prioritise closing them. Readiness and visibility need to move together: strong fact pages are useful, but they don’t secure visibility on their own.
Brands that want stronger visibility, higher positions in these rankings and better scores on our measures can talk to TBD.Media. We can take a deeper look at their own data and provide full agency support if they’d like it.
Next edition
The next edition will keep monitoring these operators in New Jersey and Michigan, add two further states and include Michigan’s fact page data.
Repeated editions will show how rankings and AI Overviews change over time, helping distinguish lasting patterns from changes seen during a short window.

How to read this
Website in the top 20
“Website in the top 20” counts distinct searches where the brand’s website appeared among the first twenty unpaid Google results in any scored collection. Unpaid results exclude advertisements.
A repeated check of the same search does not increase this count. The total includes every search in that table.
The market-picture section uses a different measure: one website domain on one search in one collection round. Its counts include repeated observations.
Who we name
We name gambling operators only when the relevant state regulator licenses them. Other gambling operators appear only as totals by site type.
All findings concern the fixed list of 211 searches. Read the method for the calculations and scoring rules.
Limits and honest uncertainty
Collection coverage
We collected all 211 searches on 10 September 2026 and 13 September 2026. On 14 September 2026, we repeated 37 of 211 searches.
We selected searches whose positions differed by more than five places between the first and second collections. Do not compare the selected subset’s rates directly with full-list rates.
Short observation period
We saw casino AI Overviews on 14 September 2026 and 15 September 2026. We did not see them on 10 September 2026 or 13 September 2026.
These observations do not confirm a lasting Google change.
Checking location
We ran our checks from the UK with a US location set. Someone checking live on a US phone may see different results.
Different collection periods
The Visibility score uses 10 September 2026, 13 September 2026 and the selected searches on 14 September 2026.
The additional casino AI Overview counts use 15 September 2026. The sportsbook AI Overview observations use 10 September 2026 and 13 September 2026.
These collections are not interchangeable. The additional casino check does not contribute to the standings.
Human review
Many checks are automated. Members of the TBD.Media team spot-check a selection of results.
Fact-page readiness
Fact-page readiness checks public pages for evidence. It does not assess legal or regulatory compliance. Evidence needing confirmation does not establish a regulatory breach.
Golden Nugget Online Casino is not rated because the address checked showed another state’s site at publication. We’ll update its rating if we can verify its New Jersey site. Fanatics Casino is not rated because its main page returned no readable content to our checks, leaving too few of the seven checks measurable.
Limits of a Visibility score
The study covers 211 fixed searches, not every search customers make. The Visibility score does not measure traffic, customers or revenue.
Corrections and disputes
Requesting a correction
Send correction requests to [email protected].
Response
TBD.Media’s team handles disputes with the brand. The team acknowledges requests within 24 hours and aims to resolve corrections within 72 hours.
Decision
TBD.Media bases correction decisions on the recorded evidence and publishes the changes.
Correction record
We record corrections after publication in the corrections log, with the date, change and reason.
Before publication
No notices were sent to brands before publication. For fact pages, the study publishes a readiness band only, for New Jersey, with no per-check result for any brand. The pre-notification section explains this decision.
